December 22 - Winding up 2006

Since beginning our grand adventure on the road for KOA in the summer of 2002, we have 5 years behind us (which also translates into over 100,000 miles)! And we've just signed on for year #6! Our job continues to expand and we look forward to the challenges and new adventures it will bring our way.

We made it back to Oklahoma in mid-September, just a few days before our new grandson made his appearance on September 20th. We had put in an 'order' for a red-headed, brown-eyed boy - and it looks like Hayden Russel isn't going to disappoint us! That's a very proud dad (Russ) giving us our first look at the new member of the family.

We settled in to our new living quarters (a room/bath in Russ' new home) and got down to enjoying catching up with friends and family. Our "Virginia kids" made the move back to Oklahoma mid-July and are living in the family home for now. What a treat for us to come home to having both our sons within a few miles of each other!

Mid-November found us flying off to Las Vegas to attend KOA's largest convention in the history of the company. Now Las Vegas is not on our list of favorite places, but we always enjoy spending time with all of our KOA friends & family. The highlight was Friday evening when we ventured out of our hotel complex to take in the show "Mystere" - a Cirque de Sol (?) offering. Wow! It was awesome!

Back home in time to celebrate a family Thanksgiving at Roger's folks - with all the trimmings. This year Twylah even remembered to thaw out the turkey (but that's another story for another day)! And in the true spirit of the season, Shelly (Randy's wife) and I hit the streets at 4:00 a.m. the next morning to catch some of those great bargains!

It seems our winters are always a time for R & R; for most that would be "rest & recreation". However, for us it seems to be "repair & reconstruction"! And right on schedule, the Monday after Thanksgiving, I (Twylah) went in for another total knee replacement - this time the right knee. Despite a few really rough days that first week, the recovery is way ahead of schedule. Since we had such a good rehab experience at Community Hospital, we requested to be sent there again. It was pretty neat when I landed back in my 'old room' again - and found several familiar faces among the staff. With bad weather settling in, Roger decided to just 'move in' with me and by Saturday the roads cleared, it was time to go home.

The staples came out Tuesday (all 36 of them - Hunter counted!) and the rehab is coming along well. Last year I made the statement that I didn't feel the rehab folks were 'pushing me' hard enough. So I choose a different rehab this time - and believe me, be careful what you ask for!
So, with Christmas upon us, it's time to take time to just enjoy. The shopping is done - the presents are wrapped - and the grandkids are anxious. We celebrated with Roger's family last week and we'll be with my sisters & their families tomorrow. Plans for Christmas Eve are still 'open' and then Christmas Day will be busy with our own family time. Randy & family head south to Dallas the evening of Christmas Day - where they will spend the night before Shelly and the boys catch a flight to Virginia to visit family there and spend Christmas break.
So wishing you all a very blessed Christmas and all the best for 2007!
