One of the 'perks' of our job is having a lot of time off around the holidays - which means being available to have our grandkids spend some of the vacation time with us. Such was the case for the second day of the New Year.
Nick and Hunter were to be our guests, and all was going well until we got a call informing us that Hunter had cheerleading practice from 10:00 - 1:00. So off she went, which left Nick at loose ends.
One of my favorite 'time killers' is playing Scrabble against the computer and it seems I have been doing a lot of it since Christmas - with the gift of the latest version. I had taken a break from getting my closet organized (since the move) and Nick decided to 'watch'. He made the suggestion that I play the word "flump". Now, I assured him that was not a word, but to satisfy him I pulled up the dictionary - and what do you know! "Flump" - 'to fall heavily'.
I have been telling folks since July how I had slipped in the mud and fell, injuring my shoulder - when all along, what I had really done was "flumped!"
What a kick Nick got out of teaching Grandma a new word and we all had a good chuckle out of it for the rest of the day . Hence, our word for the day was "flump". (Disclaimer: that is according to the 2007 Scrabble dictionary; I haven't checked it out in good 'ol Webster!)
Hunter returned from practice and they spent the rest of the afternoon occupied with Guitar Hero - which allowed us to continue working on getting things put away.
One more football game completed our day (what is it with OU and bowl games?) - and 2008 is off with a bang (for West Virginia, anyways!).
