Yes, I know - it's been a very long, quiet month. A lot of ice & snow here in Oklahoma - and the days got even longer with school closed for a week. The big grandkids (Wesley, Nick & Hunter) survived a couple of afternoons sliding down the slopes around the house here at Russ'. Inside, we have our own 'live entertainment' with Hayden in his jumping chair. It's fun getting to watch him grow & explore his world. When you are 4 months old - life is good. However, he sometimes wears himself plumb out, as you can see.
Cabin fever struck with a vengance - and we found ourselves braving the slippery roads just to get out and about. One morning it took us 45 minutes to get out of the driveway and our neighborhood. Roger kept having to back all the way down the road to get a 'running start' to try to get up the small incline on to Westminister (which was clear). I finally convinced him (he called it 'nagging'!) to go get the bag of salt out of the garage so he could throw some under the back wheel when we got stuck - just a few feet from 'freedom'. Wouldn't you know, the very next try we made it - and never had to use the salt. That day we had an afternoon appointment, so we 'killed' the day wandering the isles of Sam's Club and Best Buy. It just goes to prove the theory, once again, that it is human nature to want what you don't have.
In September we were so anxious to get home - and stop for a while. Now here we are in January and anxious to get back on the road again.
Our family continues to grow with the addition of Nick & Wesley's new guinea pigs - Calvin & Hobbs. Calvin is a short-hair/long-hair mix - and on his best days, it looks like he got a bad haircut. We haven't got to meet Hobbs - as he just joined the family yesterday - but he's a long-hair who reminds Randy of Don King (the fight promoter that looks like he stuck his finger in a light socket).
Yesterday we made the trip to Broken Arrow with Hunter to attend a cheerleading competition. Only for my grandchild (or maybe our sons) would we get up at 4:30 a.m. to drive 2 hours, then sit in a very uncomfortable plastic chair for 7 hours, then drive home 2 more hours! All the teams from the gym did really well. Of course, we were especially proud of our Hunter - she improves so much each time we see her perform. She had definitely found her niche.
Well, as the evening approaches, the Super Bowl about to begin, my services as chief cook is in great demand. Homemade pizza is on the menu and the 'natives' are getting hungry.
I promise I will try to do better with our updates, and hopefully life will get a bit more interesting in February!
